What is Green Living?
At Barbary Lane Communities you will benefit from a cleaner
and healthier living environment. A healthier living environment
means a healthier you. Whenever possible we will use non-toxic
materials and supplies, conserve natural resources, and
embrace energy efficiency throughout your community. For
example, the cleaning supplies and paints we use at Barbary
Lane Communities are non-toxic and won’t harm you
or the environment. Additionally, we’re working to
have a City Car Share
Program available to you right outside your front door.
Our dedication to your health also includes the food we
serve. Your meals will include regionally grown fresh and
seasonal foods bringing you “Farm to Table”
whenever possible. We’ll even feature wines made with
organically grown grapes that avoid the use of synthetic
chemicals and pesticides. You’re encouraged to join
our garden club where our focus is to garden using draught
resistant and native plants to conserve water and eliminate
pesticide run-off into Lake Merritt. You will live better
today while helping to preserve the larger community.
What
Is Green Building?
Green building is a way to approach the design, construction
and operation of your apartment home that allows for healthiest
living space possible and the least negative impact to our
environment. Barbary Lane Communities at Lake Merritt has
taken great strides to use Green Living Principles whenever
possible. We will continue to seek opportunities to increase
the efficiency and operation of our beautiful building.
We are committed to educate and engage our residents in
matters that affect the ways in which we impact and help
preserve our environment.
Why Be Green?
Barbary Lane Communities embraces these principles because
we believe it’s beneficial to your health and vitality
and keeps our community connected to important issues locally
and globally. Your carbon footprint is the direct affect
of your actions and lifestyle have on the environment in
terms of the amount of greenhouse gases we produce. Responsibility
for sustaining our world as a healthy environment for future
generations rests with us all. Everyone has a responsibility
to the world we live in now and the world we leave future
generations. As Mahatma Gandhi once said “one must
care about a world one will not see”.
